Career

Beginnings in motorsport

Green began his motorsport career in karting , in which he was active from 1996 to 2001. In 2001 he debuted in the winter series of the British Formula Renault in Formula racing . In 2002 he competed for Fortec Motorsport in the British Formula Renault. He won two races and was runner-up with 279 to 333 points behind his teammate Danny Watts . He won the duel for second overall with a five-point lead over Lewis Hamilton . He also took part in a Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup race and won the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award .

In 2003, Green started for Carlin Motorsport in the British Formula 3 Championship . He managed to win both races from pole position at the start of the season. While his teammate Alan van der Merwe won the championship with 308 points, Green finished second in the overall standings with 237 points, four wins and a total of 12 podium finishes. In addition, he took part in four racing weekends in the Formula 3 Euro Series . He completed the third race weekend for ASM Formule 3 and achieved a third place. He then replaced Jan Heylen on the Kolles team for the last three events.

In 2004 Green started the entire Formula 3 Euro Series season for ASM Formule 3. He won seven races and was champion with 139 points. His teammate Alexandre Prémat came in second with 88 points.

DTM

In 2005 Green switched to the DTM . He received a previous year's model from Mercedes , which Persson Motorsport used. Green achieved two pole positions in his debut season and a second place at the season finale in Hockenheim was his best result. With 29 to 5 points, he won the team-internal duel against Bruno Spengler . He also beat Jean Alesi , who drove a current Mercedes, seven points ahead. On Mika Hakkinen and Bernd Schneider , who also a current Mercedes model drove he had only one or three points behind.

Green in the HWA-Mercedes in the 2007 DTM

In 2006 , Green and Spengler received a current Mercedes model from the HWA racing team . Green started from pole position four times and two second places were his best results. He did not succeed in victory. In the overall standings, he improved to fifth place. However, he was beaten internally by Schneider and Spengler, who occupied the first two positions. Both pilots had more than twice as many points as him. However, Green prevailed internally against Häkkinen. In 2007 Green did not get past fifth place in the first eight races. In the ninth race at the Circuit de Catalunya , he finally achieved his first DTM victory. He repeated this result at the next race, the season finale in Hockenheim. In the drivers' championship he came fourth as the second best HWA driver behind Spengler. He prevailed against Schneider and Häkkinen within the team. In 2008 Green completed his fourth DTM season. As in the previous season, he won two races with victories in Mugello and Nuremberg and was again fourth overall. He was again the second best HWA driver and was only beaten internally by Paul di Resta , who was on the team in his first season. He prevailed against Spengler and Schneider. Despite these achievements, Green lost his cockpit in the HWA racing team at the end of the season. He and Schneider were replaced by Gary Paffett and Ralf Schumacher .

Green returned to Persson Motorsport in the 2009 DTM season

In 2009 Green returned to Persson Motorsport. He received a Mercedes model from last year and became a team-mate of Susie Stoddart . Already in the third race at the Norisring he managed to win. This season he was the best driver in a year-old car and was seventh overall with 27 points. At the end of the season, Green had three times as many points as Schumacher, who drove a current Mercedes. His teammate Stoddart remained without points. In 2010 Green stayed with Persson Motorsport. He won the race in Nuremberg for the third time in a row and once again finished the season as the best year-old driver. With 32 points, he finished sixth overall. He left Schumacher, who scored three points in the current Mercedes, as well as his teammates Susie Stoddart (4 points) and Cong Fu Cheng (0 points) well behind.

In 2011 , Green again received a current Mercedes racing car from HWA. He only failed to score points in two races. After already having achieved second place at the Norisring, he won the season finale at the Hockenheimring. Green was the second best Mercedes driver behind Spengler as fifth overall. Within the team, he prevailed against Gary Paffett and Schumacher. In 2012 , Green stayed with HWA. Like all Mercedes drivers, he drove a new DTM AMG Mercedes C-Coupé . At the season opener in Hockenheim he came in second. At the Norisring, he took the lead on the last lap and scored his first win of the season. Green was the only pilot who managed to score points in every race. He improved to third place in the overall standings and thus achieved the best overall placement of his DTM career. In addition to Paffett, who finished second, Green was the only Mercedes driver to have achieved podium finishes.

For the 2013 DTM season , Green switched from Mercedes to Audi . He received a cockpit at Abt Sportsline . After missing points in the first three races, he scored his first points for Audi with fifth place at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz . In Oschersleben , he was third on the podium for Audi for the first time after starting from pole position for the first time in seven years. He finished the season in eleventh place overall. In 2014 , Green moved internally to Team Rosberg . With a second and third place, he achieved two podium finishes. In the drivers' standings, he improved to tenth place. In 2015 Green stayed with Rosberg in the DTM. He chose 53 as his starting number. He scored his first win for Audi at the season opener in Hockenheim. At the second event at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, he won both races. During the next six race weekends, Green only scored four points and always missed the podium. At the season finale in Hockenheim he finished second and first. With four wins in the season, no driver had won more races than Green. He was defeated by Pascal Wehrlein in the championship with 150 to 169 points and, as the best Audi driver, came second overall.

In 2016 , Green completed another DTM season for Rosberg. He won a race in Zandvoort . He finished the season in third place overall.
