The German Touring Car Masters 2006 was the seventh season of the German Touring Car Masters ( DTM ). The first run took place on April 9, 2006 at the Hockenheimring and the season finale also took place on October 29 at the Hockenheimring.

A total of 10 races were held in Germany , Great Britain , the Netherlands , Spain and France .

Overall winner was Bernd Schneider in an AMG-Mercedes C-Class with 71 points. He was able to secure his fifth championship title after 1995, 2000, 2001 and 2003.

Season course

At the start at Hockenheim on April 9th, the German Bernd Schneider won the varied race with confidence and celebrated his 40th DTM victory of his career. Danish Tom Kristensen crossed the finish line in second place, 4.286 seconds back. Third place went to the German Heinz-Harald Frentzen for Audi .

Bernd Schneider was also able to celebrate his second victory in a row three weeks later at the EuroSpeedway . Second and third were Tom Kristensen and Mika Häkkinen . 76,000 visitors made the racing weekend at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz a complete success.

In Oschersleben there was tension in the fight for the DTM title. In the first two races of the season Mercedes-Benz won twice and in the third race of the season Tom Kristensen won for Audi, places two and three went to the Canadian Bruno Spengler and the Briton Jamie Green . Bernd Schneider finished fifth in the race.

In beautiful sunshine at Brands Hatch , England , 21,500 fans experienced a hot DTM race over the weekend. Kristensen seemed the sure winner, but had to park his car with problems 16 laps to go. The winner was the Swede Mattias Ekström , second and third were Jamie Green and Bernd Schneider. Schneider leads in the overall standings 4 points ahead of Kristensen.

Victory premiere at the audience record. Bruno Spengler is the winner of a turbulent and thrilling DTM race at the Norisring . Second and third were Bernd Schneider and Mika Häkkinen. After an outstanding performance, Stefan Mücke finished fourth in last year's car and completed the four-fold success for Mercedes-Benz. The best Audi driver was Tom Kristensen.

After his victory at the Norisring, Bruno Spengler also won the Nürburgring . Bernd Schneider was second, 10.7 seconds behind, and Martin Tomczyk in the Audi A4 was third, 1.8 seconds behind .

On Friday evening, Tom Kristensen went for a swim in the Audi paper boat race, but he was the first to confidently cross the finish line in his Audi A4 at the seventh DTM round of the season in Zandvoort . Kristensen celebrated his second DTM victory of the year in front of the Dutch record crowd of 78,500 spectators at the weekend. Schneider was second and Tomczyk third.

German Audi driver Martin Tomczyk celebrated his first DTM victory in Barcelona, ​​Spain . Bernd Schneider and Heinz-Harald Frentzen finished second and third respectively. At the finale at the Hockenheimring, the Canadian Bruno Spengler won the race for the fourth time. Jamie Green and Tom Kristensen came in second and third. The champion finished fourth in the race.
