Alexandros Margaritis ( Greek Αλέξανδρος Μαργαρίτης , born September 20, 1984 in Bonn ) is a German-Greek racing driver . From 2005 to 2007 he was a works driver for Mercedes-Benz in the DTM .
Career
Margaritis celebrated his debut in motorsport like so many talents based in Germany in neighboring, cheaper foreign countries: at the age of 13 he finished second in the Dutch FSA Kart Championship. In 1999 a fourth place followed in the German Kart Junior Cup . From there he moved to the single- posto camp for the first time , where he finished 14th overall in Formula BMW in 2002 . In the following two years he drove in the Formula 3 Euro Series without any outstanding success .
In 2005 the private team Mücke Motorsport hired him for the DTM, where he drove an AMG-Mercedes C-Class from the previous year. One of his best races was the start of the 2006 DTM season at the Hockenheimring , when he achieved a 5th place in the race after finishing 12th in qualifying, although he was defeated by his former team-mate Stefan Mücke , son of Team owner Peter Mücke, mentioned above, was almost turned out of the race in the tough race duel. This made him the best driver in the Mercedes-Benz camp with a previous year's model at the season opener, although he also rated more prominent drivers like Jean Alesi or higher like Stefan Mücke behind him. At the end of the 2007 season he announced his retirement from the DTM.
In 2008 Margaritis drove the 24-hour race in Spa on a Corvette C6.R of the Phoenix Racing team based in Meuspath at the Nürburgring . In 2011 he started for the Engstler team in the ADAC GT Masters in a BMW ALPINA B6 GT3 and won the drivers' championship together with his team-mate Dino Lunardi .
