2015 season>

The 2014 DTM season was the 28th DTM season and the 15th since the series was re-established in 2000. The season began on May 4th in Hockenheim and ended on October 19th at the same point.

Sporting and technical changes

Manufacturer

BMW took off the 2014 season the BMW M4 DTM one, of the since 2012 used BMW M3 DTM replaced.

Regulations

The rollout on Friday was divided into two segments, each lasting 15 minutes. The rollouts took place separately for vehicles with even and odd start numbers, so that each team was only allowed to use one vehicle. After the third race, it was decided to replace the 90-minute free practice on Saturday with two 60-minute practice sessions.

The qualifying mode was aligned with that of the Formula 1 World Championship , so the individual time trial of the fastest four drivers from the third qualifying segment was omitted. The reason for this change was the reduction in TV airtime by ARD .

The number of mandatory pit stops was reduced to one for the 2014 season; two tire changes were required in the previous season. The mandatory pit stop had to take place in the so-called pit stop window , which corresponded to the second third of the race. However , it was not allowed to take it during a safety car phase. Instead, it was allowed to do it in the first six laps after a safety car phase, even if this stop did not take place in the second third of the race. With the soft tire compound, however, no more than half of the race distance could be covered. The only permitted exception was again a safety car phase, but then the tire change had to be carried out in the first six laps after the phase had ended. After the second race of the season, the rule was revised: On courses with an even number of laps in the race, the softer tire compound was allowed to be used a maximum of one lap less than the half of the race; in races with an odd number of laps, it was 1.5 laps less than a calculated half of the race. After the third race it was decided that the pit stop window would not be applicable in rain races.

The Drag Reduction System (DRS) introduced in the previous season was allowed to be used until the end of the race this season; previously it was deactivated in the last three laps. In addition, the drivers decided to be able to use it during the race in Zandvoort. In the previous year, this was not permitted due to safety concerns.

Depending on the race results achieved, all vehicles of a brand had to be given so-called performance weights . The maximum payload was ten kilograms. Only two replacement motors per manufacturer were allowed to be used.

Teams and drivers

All teams used Hankook tires .

Race calendar and results

The racing calendar has been slightly modified compared to the previous season. The race at Brands Hatch in the United Kingdom was no longer part of the racing calendar in 2014, instead the Hungaroring in Mogyoród, Hungary, was added to the DTM calendar. Running is also in the Dutch Zandvoort was originally a race on a specially designed for the DTM street circuit in Chinese Guangzhou to be replaced. However, after delays occurred in the reconstruction of the track in Guangzhou, negotiations began to switch to another Chinese circuit. The main focus was on the Zhuhai International Circuit . When these negotiations also failed, it was decided in July 2014 to hold the ninth DTM round again in Zandvoort, the Netherlands, in September 2014.
