Adrien Tambay (born February 25, 1991 in Paris ) is a French racing driver . He competed in the Auto GP in 2010 and 2011 . He competed in the DTM from 2012 to 2016 .

His father is the former Formula 1 racing driver Patrick Tambay .

Career

Tambay, who drove karting for the first time at the age of five , began his motorsport career in karting in 2001 , where he was active until 2006. In 2007 he joined the Formula racing and went into the German Formula BMW at the start. With two victories at the end of the season, he finished fourth overall as the best newcomer with a narrow margin over his team-mate Marco Wittmann . In 2008 he started the European Formula BMW, which arose from the merger of the German and British Formula BMWs. Tambay again won two races and at the end of the season took third place in the drivers' championship behind the champions Esteban Gutiérrez and Wittmann, who was no longer his teammate this season. In the two seasons he also took part in some races of the American Formula BMW and in 2008, as a guest starter, also won a race in this series.

In 2009 Tambay moved to the ART Grand Prix in the Formula 3 Euro Series . In contrast to his team-mates, he did not score any points and finished 21st overall at the end of the season. He also made a guest appearance in the British Formula 3 championship . Tambay made headlines when he sustained a head injury in an accident in Spa-Francorchamps . The accident did not happen in the racing car, but during a private soccer game in the pit lane area, where he crashed unhappily. Tambay suffered a severe concussion and had to pause several races.

In 2010 he moved to Charouz-Gravity Racing in the Auto GP . At the third race in Imola , Tambay won his first race in the series. 27 years earlier, his father Patrick Tambay achieved a Formula 1 victory for Ferrari on this racetrack . At the end of the season he finished sixth overall behind his team-mate Jan Charouz , who was fourth. He also recorded for Manor Racing at two race weekends of the GP3 Series in part. With one victory, he finished 20th in the drivers' championship. In 2011 Tambay contested his second auto GP season. After starting for DAMS on the first three race weekends , he switched to Campos Racing for the fifth race weekend . With a win he finished the championship in fourth place overall. He also started in Formula Renault 3.5 . He completed one racing weekend each for Pons Racing and International Draco Racing . In addition, Tambay gained experience in GT racing outside of formula racing and competed in two races of the FIA GT3 European Championship .

In 2012 Tambay left formula racing and switched to the DTM . He received an Audi A5 DTM from Abt Sportsline . After he had achieved his first points in the DTM with a fifth place in Zandvoort, his first DTM podium followed two races later in Valencia with a second place. At the end of the season he was in tenth place in the drivers' championship. He also took part in a race in the Blancpain Endurance Series and two races in the French GT championship. In 2013 Tambay stayed with Abt in the DTM. After missing points in the first half of the season, he finished fourth at the Moscow Raceway . He finished the season in 14th place overall. In 2014 Tambay competed again for Abt in the DTM. A third place at the season opener in Hockenheim was his only podium finish. He was again 14th in the drivers' championship. In 2015 , Tambay completed his fourth season in the DTM for Abt. His starting number was 27. As the worst Audi driver, he finished the season in 24th place overall. He also took part in a race in the Blancpain Endurance Series.

For the 2016 DTM season , Tambay moved to Team Rosberg within the Audi teams . He skipped one race due to injury. While his team-mate Jamie Green was third overall, Tambay achieved 18th place in the drivers' standings with a second place as the best position.
