Rule changes

Sporting changes

For the 2011 season, the Formula 3 Euro Series introduced a new racing format. The series was based on the British Formula 3 championship . On Fridays there were two training sessions of 60 minutes each and a 30-minute qualifying session. There were two races on Saturday. For the starting grid of the first race, which was about 110 km long, the second fastest time in qualifying was decisive. Then the second race was held with a length of about 55 km. The starting grid was based on the result of the first race, with the first eight drivers starting in reverse order. On Sunday the third race took place over a distance of 110 km. The starting grid for this was determined through qualifying on Friday. The standard FIA point system was chosen as the point system for races 1 and 3 . The first ten got 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 point (s), respectively. For the second race, the point system applied that previously applied to the main races of the Formula 3 Euro Series. The first eight got 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point (s) respectively.

After the season, the three best drivers will have the opportunity to take part in a Formula Renault 3.5 test . The best newcomer was rewarded with a bonus of 50,000 euros. In addition, the two best drivers with a Mercedes-Benz engine will receive a DTM test with Mercedes-Benz. The two best Volkswagen drivers will have the opportunity to test a DTM Audi. The best drivers in the overall standings are given a test opportunity at the Formula 1 racing teams Mercedes Grand Prix and Red Bull Racing .
