Van Amersfoort Racing
Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR for short) is a Dutch racing team founded in 1975 by Frits van Amersfoort. In the 2020 season the team will be represented in the Formula Regional European Championship , the Euroformula Open , the Italian Formula 4 Championship and the German ADAC Formula 4 Championship .
Among the significant drivers in the history VARs include not only the current Formula 1 pilots Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen and other riders like Mick Schumacher or Jos Verstappen .
Formula Regional European Championship
After Van Amersfoort was only one of three teams that had registered for the Formula European Masters, the series intended to replace the European Formula 3 was canceled at short notice. As a replacement for this, the team took part in the Formula European Regional Championship, also because it is largely held in parallel with the Italian Formula 4, in which Van Amersfoort also takes part. The first race of the championship in Le Castellet was also Sophia Flörsch's first race after her accident in Macau in 2018 . In addition to Flörsch, Alexandre Bardinon and Dan Ticktum competed in the series in the 2019 season .
Euroformula Open
In addition to the races in the Formula Regional European Championship, Van Amersfoort Racing will also be competing in the Euroformula Open in the 2020 season. For this, the team will use the Dallara 317 chassis that they already own. In order to meet the requirements, however, an upgrade to the new F-320 chassis equipped with Halo must be installed. In the course of the tests, the team assured that it was still interested in Formula 3 championships.
Formula 4
Van Ammersfoort used the same drivers in German and Italian Formula 4 in 2019.
In the 2019 season, Dennis Hauger won the race for the team as part of the Formula 1 weekend at the Hockenheimring, but at the end of the race he collided with his team-mate Niklas Krütten . Hauger was runner-up in 2019 in the German Formula 4 and in the team classification Van Amersfoort took second place behind US Racing - CHRS.
In the Italian Formula 4, Dennis Hauger was meanwhile champion and Van Ammersfoort was able to achieve the team title before the Prema Powerteam.
For the 2020 season, Van Amersfoort will be competing in both the Italian and German Formula 4 championships with the two Red Bull Junior drivers Jonny Edgar and Jak Crawford .
