Carlo van Dam (born February 27, 1986 in Vlaardingen ) is a Dutch racing driver . In 2007 he won the championship title in the German Formula 3 Cup and in 2008 the Japanese Formula 3 championship .

Career

Van Dam began his motorsport career in karting in 1994 , in which he was active until 2004. In 2004 he moved into the single-seater racing and was fifth in the Dutch Formula Renault . He also took part in four German Formula Renault races. In 2005 the Dutch competed in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . With four podium finishes, he finished fourth overall. He also started in some races of the Dutch Formula Renault, in which he finally finished seventh. In 2006 he stayed in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and with a win improved to third place in the overall standings. In addition, he took part in some races of the French Formula Renault, in which he finished 13th overall.

In 2007 van Dam moved to Van Amersfoort Racing in the German Formula 3 Cup . He dominated the season, won nine of 18 races, stood on the podium in another seven races and won the championship title. He also made his debut in the Formula 3 Euro Series at the season finale and took part in eight races of the Mégane Trophy Eurocup . In 2008 van Dam left Europe and moved to Japan, where he competed in the Japanese Formula 3 championship . Once again, the Dutchman was the dominant driver and stood on the podium in every race. With nine wins from 18 races, he finally won the championship title. He also competed in some Super GT races .

In 2009 van Dam returned to Europe and started for Kolles & Heinz Union in the Formula 3 Euro Series. He left the team after just two runs. He contested round eight of the Formula 3 Euro Series for SG Formula , for which he had already driven in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. In the overall ranking he finished 31st. The Dutchman also took part in several races in the Superleague Formula in 2009 . He went to the start for the PSV Eindhoven team supervised by Azerti Motorsport . He also started in a VW Scirocco GT24 in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring , where his team finished third in its class and 20th in the overall standings. He had two other races in a Saleen S7R at the 24-hour race of Spa-Francorchamps as part of the FIA GT Championship and also in a Saleen S7R in a race in the Asian Le Mans Series , which he finished in third class .
