Masahiko Kageyama ( Japanese 影 山 正彦 , Kageyama Masahiko ; born August 8, 1963 in Fujisawa ) is a former Japanese racing driver .

Career

Kageyama began his career in the mid-1980s and was active in motorsport until 2002. The Japanese competed in his first season in the Japanese Formula 3 championship in 1987 and finished ninth in the overall standings. All his time in racing, he always drove monoposto and sports car races in parallel. In 1988 he drove a Porsche 962C from Leyton House Racing in the 1000 km race in Fuji together with Naoki Nagasaka and Kaoru Hoshino in eighth place overall. The race was part of the sports car world championship this year . After his overall victory in the Japanese Formula 3 championship in 1989, with five race wins on a Ralt RT33 , he switched to the Japanese Formula 3000 championship in 1990.

As the monoposto career increasingly stalled, Kageyama shifted his activities more and more to GT and sports car racing. In 1993 he secured overall victory in the GT500 class of the Japanese GT championship . A success that he was able to repeat and trump in 1994 and 1995 with overall victories in Class 1 of this championship.

Kageyama competed regularly in the GT series of his home country until 2002. His greatest success in monoposto racing was fourth overall in Formula Nippon in 1998. His only racing appearance in Europe was the Le Mans 24-hour race, where he finished third overall in 1998 on the podium.

He is the brother of the racing driver Masami Kageyama .
