Ross Cheever

Ross Cheever (born April 12, 1964 in Rome ) is a retired American racing car driver and the younger brother of Eddie Cheever .

Career in motorsport

Ross Cheever is six years younger than his brother Eddie and spent the first years of his life in Italy . He celebrated his first successes in motorsport in Formula 3 in the early 1980s . The British Formula 3 Championship 1984 (Champion Johnny Dumfries ), he finished fifth overall. In 1987 he won the overall ranking of the Japanese Formula 3 championship ahead of Hitoshi Ogawa . Two years later, Ogawa was his strongest competitor again in the Japanese Formula 3000 Championship . The championship was decided in the last round of the last championship run on the Suzuka International Racing Course , when he collided as championship leader while lapping with Osamu Nakako , who was spinning in front of him, and was eliminated; Ogawa became the overall winner. Also in 1991 he had to be content with second place in the championship, this time behind Ukyō Katayama . In the following three years he finished the championship in third overall.

In 1992 he took part in the 500-mile race in Indianapolis and in 1989 in the 24-hour race at Le Mans . After the end of the 1994 season, he retired from active racing.
