The 1000 km race of Fuji 1987 , also WEC in Japan, 1987 World Sports Prototype Car Championship, Fuji Speedway , took place on September 27th at Fuji Speedway and was the tenth and final race of the sports car world championship of that year. At the same time, the race was the fifth round of the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship and the third of the Fuji Long Distance Series.

The race

The Fuji 1000 km race was the final event of the 1987 World Sports Car Championship . Because the race was also one of two Japanese sports car championships, the second-best field after the 24-hour race at Le Mans came up. Toyota launched the 87C-L for the last time . Mazdaspeed and Nissan Motorsports International were also represented with factory cars. The fastest lap time in practice was achieved by Takao Wada in the factory Nissan R86V with 1,19,021 minutes .

Despite the strong competition from Japanese and European teams, the race victory went back to Jaguar, who were already world champions. Jan Lammers and John Watson won ahead of their teammates Raul Boesel and Johnny Dumfries and the Porsche 962C GTi driven by Mauro Baldi and Mike Thackwell .
