Thorkild Thyrring (born October 24, 1946 in Copenhagen ) is a former Danish racing driver .

Racing career

Thorkild Thyrring contested his first car races in the 1970s in the Danish monoposto sport . He drove in the domestic Formula Ford championship and entered the European Formula 3 championship in 1976 . The season in which the Italian Riccardo Patrese secured the championship title, he finished tenth overall. Thyrring stayed in Formula 3 until 1978 . That year he was ninth overall (Champion Nelson Piquet ) in the British Formula 3 Championship .

Up until the beginning of 1984, Thyrring was no longer registered at any motorsport event. After returning to the racetracks, he mainly competed in GT , touring and sports car races . Between 1985 and 2007 he was entered in 121 races, of which he entered the race in 117. He was able to win eleven overall and 9 class wins, most of them in the British GT Championship, the overall ranking of which he won in 1993, 1994 and 1995. In 1988 he finished second overall in the C2 class of the sports car world championship .

In 1986 he made his debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans , where he competed nine times until 2006 . He achieved his best overall ranking in 1987 when he finished tenth with John Sheldon and Ian Harrower .
