Xavier Pompidou
Xavier Pompidou (born June 27, 1972 in Meulan-en-Yvelines ) is a French racing driver .
Career
Like many racing drivers, Pompidou began his motorsport career in karting . At the age of 18, he finished second overall in the Formula A World Championship in 1990. In 1992, he climbed into the single-seater racing and competed in the Formula Renault . Via the French championship he got into the pan-European competition, where he finished fourth overall with 111 points in 1994.
The French Formula 3 championship followed as a further step in his career . In 21 races - spread over two years - he only achieved one pole position and a podium finish. In addition to a lack of sporting success, he also lacked sponsorship funds to continue his monoposto career. Pompidou switched to sports car and GT racing . At the beginning he had to make do with small private teams, but quickly made a name for himself as a fast pilot and was soon offered better cockpits.
In 1998 he made his debut for Kremer Racing at the Le Mans 24-hour race . The twelfth overall position achieved this year remained the best overall result in this endurance race , along with the same position in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2008 . In 2001 he won the GT classification of the 1000 km race in Estoril and a year later, also in the GT class, at the 1000 km race in Suzuka .
His greatest successes he achieved in the Le Mans Series , where he in 2005 together with Marc Lieb won the overall title in the GT2 class. In 2007 he was runner-up in this class. In 2009 he reached another runner-up, this time in the LMP2 class.
Since 2010 he has been racing in the V de V Challenge Endurance Moderne - the French GT championship.
