Andrea Belicchi
Andrea Belicchi (born December 18, 1976 in Parma ) is an Italian racing driver . Belicchi took part in endurance races from 2006 to 2014 and was under contract with Rebellion Racing from 2007 . From 2012 to 2014 he competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). In 2015 he competed in the TCR International Series .
Career
Beginnings in motorsport (1991–1999)
Belicchi began his motorsport career in karting in 1991 , where he remained active until 1999. Among other things, he won the Italian 100 international championship in 1993 and the Italian 125 international championship in 1996. In 1997 he also made his debut in touring car / GT racing . He finished sixth in the Renault Spider Europe . In 1998 he stayed in this series and won it for himself. In addition, Belicchi won the Italian Renault Megane Coppa Junior and he took part in two races of the French GT Championship. In 1999 he finished second overall in the Renault Sport Clio Trophy . He also made his debut in formula racing and took part in nine races of the Euro Open Movistar By Nissan for In Motorsport . He managed a victory and he was tenth in the championship.
Formula Nissan / Formula Renault (2000-2004)
In 2000, Belicchi focused mainly on formula racing. He switched to Doors Engineering within the racing series, which was now called Open Telefonica by Nissan . With two wins he finished the season in seventh place in the drivers' standings. He also took part in some races in the Formula Renault 2000 Eurocup and returned to the Renault Sport Clio Trophy for individual races. In 2001 Belicchi started for Doors Engineering and Sitec Motorsport in the Open Telefonica by Nissan. With two wins he improved to third place overall, which is his best overall placement in this racing series. He also took part again in individual races of the Renault Sport Clio Trophy. In 2002 Belicchi switched to Formula Nissan 2000 , which was founded as a sub-series of Open Telefonica by Nissan. Starting for BCN Competition , he won a race and finished the season on the fifth championship course. In addition, he competed for Lukoil Racing in the Russian Formula 3 championship. There he won two races and won the championship.
In 2003, Belicchi received a cockpit at AFC Motorsport in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup , which two years later together with the Open Telefonica by Nissan became the Formula Renault 3.5. Belicchi won a race and was on the podium four times. He reached sixth overall. In addition, Belicchi became Finnish Formula 3 champion in 2003 for Lukoil Racing. He won all eight races starting from pole position and always achieved the fastest race lap. In 2004 Belicchi stayed with AFC Motorsport in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup. He won three races and came third in the drivers' championship. It was Belicchi's last full season in formula racing.
GT-Sport (2005)
In 2005, Belicchi's main focus was the Italian GT Championship, in which he achieved seventh place in the GT1 classification. He also took part in one race each in the Porsche Supercup and the Italian Formula 3000 .
Le Mans Series (2006-2011)
In 2006 Belicchi made his debut in the Le Mans Series . He entered two races in the LMGT2 class and won this classification in one race.
In 2007 Belicchi competed for Speedy Racing in the LMGT2 class of the Le Mans Series and - also in an LMGT2 vehicle - took part in the Le Mans 24 Hours for the first time in 2007 . He finished seventh in the LMGT2 class of the Le Mans Series. In 2008 Belicchi stayed with Speedy Racing, but switched to the LMP2 class of the Le Mans prototypes . In the Le Mans Series, he finished tenth in his class with a podium finish. During 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans , where he also raced in the LMP2 class, he retired from the previous year. In both years Belicchi was also active in the International GT Open .
In 2009 Belicchi rose to the highest prototype class, the LMP1, together with Speedy Racing. Together with his teammates Marcel Fässler and Nicolas Prost , he finished fifth in the championship with a podium finish. He also crossed the finish line for the first time at the Le Mans 24-hour race with Prost and Neel Jani . In 2009 Belicchi was also active in individual races in the Italian touring car endurance championship and the Italian Porsche Carrera Cup . He made a guest start in the Porsche Supercup. In 2010 Belicchi stayed with his racing team, which now started as Rebellion Racing . In the LMP1 classification of the Le Mans Series, he finished seventh together with Jean-Christophe Boullion . He also took part in the 2010 Le Mans 24-hour race for Rebellion Racing . In 2011, Belicchi and Boullion took second place in the LMP1 drivers' championship of the Le Mans Series. He also competed for Rebellion Racing again for the 24 Hours of Le Mans and he took part in a race of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup for his racing team. In addition, he completed several races in the Italian GT championship.
WEC (2012-2014)
When the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup became the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2012 , Belicchi received an LMP1 cockpit at Rebellion. He finished fourth in two races and finished the season together with his teammate Harold Primat in eighth place in the drivers' world championship. In addition, he took part in a race in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) with Jani and Prost , which the three won. Belicchi made another guest start in the Porsche Supercup.
In 2013 Belicchi stayed with Rebellion in the WEC, but was no longer used in every race, as Rebellion only fielded one vehicle after the 2013 Le Mans 24-hour race . Belicchi also broke his rib in an accident at the Le Mans 24-hour race. At the 6-hour race at Mount Fuji , Belicchi and Mathias Beche achieved their first podium finish in the world championship with a third place. At the end of the season he was in 13th place in the world championship. He also completed a race in the ALMS.
In 2014 , Belicchi played his third season for Rebellion in the FIA World Endurance Championship and formed a team with Dominik Kraihamer and Fabio Leimer . After the three drivers never reached the finish line in the first half of the season, they always scored points in the second half of the season. A sixth place was their best result and they finished 17th in the drivers' championship.
TCR (2015)
In 2015 , Belicchi switched to touring car racing to Target Competition in the TCR International Series . He won for the first time at the second race weekend in Shanghai . He did not appear at two events. While his teammate Stefano Comini won the championship, Belicchi achieved sixth place in the drivers' championship.
