Spyker Cars NV [ ˈspɛi̯ːkəʁ ] is a Dutch company that builds exclusive sports cars and was also involved in Formula 1 for a short time . The company motto (see emblem) was: "Nulla tenaci invia est via" ( Latin : no path is impassable for the stubborn ). The company relied on the tradition of the former manufacturer Spyker .
history
In 1999 the multimillionaire Victor R. Muller acquired the brand of the car manufacturer Spyker , which was dissolved in 1926, and revived the sports car manufacture under the name Spyker Automobielen or Spyker Cars .
Wilhelm Karmann GmbH also participated as a partner in development, design and production . The production facility for racing and road cars was set up in Zeewolde and the C8 Spyker sports car has been manufactured in a small series since autumn 2005 . For cost reasons, the assembly of the road cars has been carried out by an external company in Coventry since the end of 2009 . Using a webcam , the customer can follow the construction of his vehicle over the Internet.
In September 2006 Spyker bought the Formula 1 racing team Midland F1 and started in 2007 as Spyker F1 . However, the team was sold again after a year due to financial difficulties and then joined as Force India .
After the Swedish sports car manufacturer Koenigsegg refrained from taking over Saab Automobile , Spyker got in touch in December 2009 as a prospective buyer. On January 26, 2010, the previous owner General Motors announced that it had signed a binding contract for the sale of Saab Automobile to Spyker. The company was transferred to a successor company called Saab Spyker Automobile , in which General Motors received preferred shares valued at US $ 324 million (USD).
In February 2011, Spyker announced that it wanted to sell the loss-making sports car business to private investors. The plan is to raise 15 million euros upon transfer of ownership and to participate in the company's future success with up to 17 million euros. This is intended to reduce debt and future capital requirements, and they also want to focus on Saab. The transaction should be completed within six months in the form of a sale of all assets in the sports car business ( asset deal ).
At the end of March 2011, suppliers began to stop delivering components to its Trollhättan assembly plant due to outstanding debts from the subsidiary Saab . Saab then had to temporarily stop automobile assembly in the first week of April. After Saab's failure to become liquid again by selling assets, Spyker tried to approach Chinese investors. The entry of the car maker Rongcheng Hawtai Automobile , which was announced in early May, did not take place due to a lack of permits. Instead, on May 16, the auto retailer Pang Da appeared as a potential investor and announced that it would take a 24 percent stake in Spyker. On June 16, 2011, Spyker Cars NV changed its name to Swedish Automobile NV
On December 18, 2014, Spyker filed for bankruptcy.
On July 29, 2015 it was announced that it would be solvent again.
The new C8 Preliator model was presented at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, followed by the associated roadster a year later.
Selling Spyker Cars
The sale of the Spyker Cars division of Swedish Automobile NV (formerly Spyker Cars NV) has already been announced twice. However, the takeovers by investors CPP Global Holdings and North Street Capital failed for reasons previously unknown. On September 29, 2011, Swedish Automobile announced that they had reached an agreement with US investor North Street Capital to buy the sports car manufacturer Spyker. The targeted purchase price should be € 32 million. The proceeds will be used to settle outstanding debts with the Tenaci Capital investment fund. Victor Muller, who previously headed Spyker Cars, will continue to run the company after the takeover.
Saab automobiles for sale
On October 28, 2011 it was announced that the two Chinese companies Youngman and Pang Da want to take over 100 percent of the shares in Saab from the parent company Swedish Automobile for 100 million euros.
On December 19, 2011, the subsidiary Saab Automobile filed for insolvency. This was preceded by the former parent company General Motors refusing to approve the use of various patents.
