Donkervoort is a Netherlands- based automobile manufacturer . The company was founded by the Dutchman Joop Donkervoort in 1978 and only produces roadsters that were originally derived from the Lotus Seven and still look similar to it today.

Current production

Donkervoort builds new complete vehicles by hand in Lelystad . The Donkervoort D8 vehicle type was redesigned by the founder Joop Donkervoort and, apart from external similarities, has nothing in common with the original Lotus Super 7 . Donkervoort uses materials such as carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and other modern composite materials for its cars. The current engine is supplied by Audi (2.5-liter TFSI five-cylinder turbo engines). The output of the new 2.5-liter five-cylinder engines ranges from 250 to 280 kW (340–380 hp) as standard.

Thanks to the extremely low weight of Donkervoort vehicles, accelerations of 2.8 s to 100 km / h (Donkervoort D8 GTO) as well as extreme cornering speeds and decelerations are possible.

The car has neither an anti-lock braking system (ABS) nor an electronic stability program (ESP). Only an adjustable traction control, full throttle function and launch control are offered as options.

Models from the past

Donkervoort D8 GT (2007-2012)
The Donkervoort D8 GT presented in 2007 is the first closed Donkervoort. Compared to the open version of the D8, the GT has a newly developed front and rear suspension. It is 8 cm wider. It has larger brake discs for maximum deceleration and 17 "aluminum wheels. The total weight of 650 kg is achieved primarily through the extensive use of carbon fiber materials. The entire roof, rear, doors and fenders are made of this material.
Donkervoort D8 270 (2008-2012)
The Donkervoort D8 270 has been available since summer 2008. This D8 version is the successor to the D8 270 RS, which was built in a limited edition of 25 units. The D8 270 has a newly designed front section based on that of the D8 GT. It accelerates to 100 km / h in 3.6 s.
Donkervoort D8 Audi (E-Gas) Wide Track (2003-2012)

Since 2003, Donkervoort vehicles have been equipped with 1.8T-20V turbo engines with an “ electronic accelerator ” from Audi . The engine is available in the following output variants: 110 kW / 150 PS, 132 kW / 180 PS, 154 kW / 210 PS, 173 kW / 235 PS and 199 kW / 270 PS. Thanks to its weight of 630 kg, accelerations from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.8 to 5.2 seconds are possible, depending on the engine variant.

Special models

Donkervoort D8 GTO Bilster Berg Edition
The Donkervoort D8 GTO Bilster Berg Edition, presented at the beginning of 2015, has a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine from Audi with 280 kW and a maximum torque of 475 Nm at 1,750 rpm. Although the D8 GTO was already very fast, Donkervoort managed to increase the speed and grip again in combination with further developments and improvements in terms of chassis and road holding. What immediately catches the eye on the new special model is the unique shape of the nose, which Donkervoort designed especially for the special edition.

Lap record for street legal cars on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring

The then German importer Michael Düchting drove a new lap record for street-legal cars on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife with 7: 18.01 minutes on October 24, 2004 in a Donkervoort D8 RS . In the meantime, work is being carried out on an even more powerful vehicle, as the record has meanwhile been lost. In autumn 2005, under less than ideal weather conditions, Michael Düchting briefly regained the record with a time of 7: 14.89 minutes.
