Zeewolde ( ) is a municipality in the south of the Dutch province of Flevoland with 22,397 inhabitants (as of January 31, 2019) and an area of 269 km². Zeewolde is strongly influenced by agriculture on the fertile polder soil and has been an independent municipality since 1984. It is one of the youngest villages in the Netherlands.
The medium-wave transmitter Flevo and the short-wave transmitter Flevo are located near Zeewolde .
The Dutch scouts have a campsite near Harderhaven . In 1998, the nearby Eemmeerdijk wind farm was built. The production facility of the Spyker company has been located in Zeewolde since 1999 .
Surname
Zeewolde should originally have been built east of Lelystad on the Polder Ostliches Flevoland. For the villages planned there, an expert commission established historical place names from this area. Two names of places that have long since ceased to exist can be found in a document from 793 AD “in silva que dicitur Seawald sive Swifterbant” , from which the names Swifterbant and Zeewolde were derived. Since Zeewolde, unlike Swifterbant, was never built on the first polder, the name was used for the second place on southern Flevoland.
