Julius August Ludwig Wegscheider

Julius August Ludwig Wegscheider (born September 27, 1771 in Küblingen , † January 27, 1849 in Halle (Saale) ) was a Protestant theologian and the most important dogmatist of theological rationalism .

Life

Wegscheider studied theology at the University in Helmstedt in which theology professor Heinrich Philipp Konrad Henke and tutor was then a Hamburg Family (1795-1805). In 1805 he was repetent at the University of Göttingen and in 1806 accepted a call from the University of Rinteln as a professor of theology and philosophy.

In this role, Wegscheider moved to the theological faculty of the University of Halle in 1810 , where the rationalist was reprimanded by the government in 1830 as an alleged mocker of Christianity. The trigger for this procedure was a public denunciation by Ernst Ludwig von Gerlach , who u. a. had taken place in the " Evangelical Church newspaper ".

At the instigation of the Brunswick Lodge, Wegscheider was accepted into the Hamburg Freemason Lodge Ferdinand zum Felsen in 1795 ; In 1815 he joined the lodge to the three swords in Halle. He was an honorary member of the Great Lodge of Hamburg and Honorary Master of the Great National Mother Lodge "To the three world balls" .

At the age of 77, Julius Wegscheider died on January 27, 1849 in Halle, where he found his final resting place in the Laurentiusfriedhof .
