Dominik Kraihamer (born November 29, 1989 in Oberndorf near Salzburg ) is an Austrian racing driver . He has competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) since 2012 .

Career

Kraihamer made his first experiences in karting at the age of 13 when he accompanied his father to a kart track and tried out a kart there. Kraihamer began his motorsport career in karting in 2004 , in which he was active until 2008. In 2007 he graduated from test drives in the Formula BMW , but decided against a career in Formula racing . Instead, Kraihamer switched to GT racing in 2008 and drove a Lamborghini Gallardo from S-Berg Racing in the FIA GT3 European Championship . He was left without points.

In 2009 Kraihamer switched to endurance racing and competed for Boutsen Energy Racing in Formula Le Mans . Contrary to what the name suggests, it was not a formula racing series, but a racing category with Le Mans prototypes . He finished one race on the podium and set the fastest race lap three times. He was 13th in the overall standings. In 2010 , Formula Le Mans was part of the Le Mans Series . Kraihamer continued to compete for Boutsen Energy Racing. He finished two races on the podium and set the fastest race lap once. Together with his team-mate Nicolas De Crem, he finished fifth in the ranking . In addition, Kraihamer took part in a race in the French Porsche Carrera Cup and completed test drives in Formula 2 in December .

In 2011 , Boutsen Energy Racing moved to the LMP2 category of the Le Mans Series. Kraihamer became an operational pilot. According to his own statements, he had "wished for more time" because it was only his third year in endurance sport. De Crem became his teammate again. His team used an Oreca 03 with a Nissan engine. After the two had finished sixth overall and fourth in the LMP2 class in the first race, de Crem / Kraihamer came second in the LMP2 category in the second race in Spa-Francorchamps . Kraihamer then received a cockpit in the Oreca 03 Nissan of the Oreca Matmut team for this year's Le Mans 24-hour race . His teammates were David Hallyday and Alexandre Prémat . Kraihamer attracted attention with fast stints and the fastest race lap of an LMP2 car. However, due to an accident at Hallyday, the race ended prematurely. After de Crem / Kraihamer fell behind early in the third race of the Le Mans Series season, de Crem had to leave the team for budget reasons. Thor-Christian Ebbesvik became Kraihamer's new teammate. The two achieved third place in the LMP2 classification in the fourth race at Silverstone . The two retired in the fifth and final race. Kraihamer drove the car shortly before the end of the race and, with a brake failure in the last minute, drove into the lane while in second place in the LMP2 classification. Kraihamer was ultimately in fifth place in the LMP2 classification. In 2011 Kraihamer also took part in the 24-hour race in Dubai in a BMW Z4 GT3 from the Engstler Motorsport team.

Although Kraihamer confirmed during the 2011 season that he did not want to start directly in the LMP1 category in the next season, he signed a contract with OAK Racing for the LMP1 class of the newly founded FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) for the 2012 season. . A test at Sebring in the LMP1 vehicle from OAK Racing changed his attitude towards an early change to the highest category of LMP1 vehicles. During the test drives, he managed to set the lap times of his team-mates on the second day of the test. On March 18, 2013, Lotus announced that Kraihamer had been signed and will compete in the LMP2 class together with Thomas Holzer the following season.

After three years with Rebellion Racing , Kraihamer has been part of the ByKolles Racing driver squad since 2017 .
