Le Mans Series 2010

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2010 Le Mans Series season was the seventh season of the Le Mans Series hosted by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest . It was held over five races in the period from April 10, 2010 to September 12, 2010. Stéphane Sarrazin won the title in the LMP1 class .

Racing calendar

Compared to the 2009 season, the 1000 km race in Barcelona was dropped in favor of an 8-hour race on the Paul Ricard Circuit in Le Castellet. The only run in Germany, the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring , was replaced by a race on the Hungaroring in Budapest. In contrast to previous years, there were two races in 2010 that ended in the night, namely the race on the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve and the race on the Hungaroring. The usual pre-test on the Circuit Paul Ricard took place from March 7th to 8th. The season finale, 1000 km from Silverstone, also marked the start of the 2010 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup .

Ratings

At each race, points were given to all participants who could finish the race. Participants who were unable to complete the race or who did not cover the required 70 percent of the race distance to be classified did not receive any points. In each class, a bonus point was awarded for pole position and the fastest race lap . Participants who changed the engine before the required two races contested received two minus points. For every further engine change before two races, four additional minus points followed. With a race distance of over 1500 kilometers, the number of points awarded in the race doubled.

Team evaluation

The top two teams in the LMP1, LMP2 and LMGT2 classes received an automatic invitation to the 2011 Le Mans 24-hour race , provided the team took part in all the races in the 2010 Le Mans Series season. Teams in the LMGT1 class did not receive an invitation as the class was abolished at the end of the year.
