history

The racing driver Amato Ferrari founded the AF Corse team after his active career. In addition to operations under its own name, AF Corse is known for cooperations with other teams or as an operational team - such as for Advanced Engineering , AT-Racing , PeCom Racing , Michael Waltrip Racing and SMP Racing . In addition to the series listed below, AF Corse also used vehicles in the Italian GT and Super Touring Car Championship, the Superstars series and the International GT Open . From 2003 to 2006 AF Corse took over the implementation of the Trofeo Maserati for Maserati .

FIA GT Championship

In 2004, AF Corse fielded two new Maserati MC12s in the FIA GT championship with factory support . Mika Salo and Andrea Bertolini won two races, but the Maserati MC12 was only officially homologated at the last race in Zhuhai .

In the following years AF Corse concentrated on the GT2 category and won the driver and team title with a Ferrari 430 in 2006, 2007 and 2008. In 2009 AF Corse won the teams' title.

FIA GT3 European Championship

In the first season of the FIA GT3 European Championship in 2006, AF Corse fielded three Maserati GranSport Light of the GT3 specification . In 2011 AF Corse returned to the championship with two Ferrari 458 Italias and won the drivers' title with Francesco Castellacci and Frederico Leo . In the final season of the FIA GT3 European Championship in 2012 , AF Corse finished second in both the drivers' and the team's standings.

FIA GT1 World Championship

After the FIA GT1 World Championship switched to the technical regulations of the GT3 Group in 2012, AF Corse also fielded two Ferrari 458 Italia here. The team finished fifth in the team classification with Filip Salaquarda as the best driver in seventh place. The Czech and Finnish works driver Toni Vilander recorded a victory at the Nürburgring.

Blancpain Endurance Series

AF Corse has been using vehicles in the Blancpain Endurance Series since 2011 . In 2012 AF Corse won the team title of the Pro-Am Cup and the driver's title in the same category with Niek Hommerson and Louis Machiels . Two years later, Francisco Guedes and Peter Mann won the Gentleman Trophy title. In 2015 AF Corse secured the Pro-Am category title one race before the end of the season after winning the class at the Spa-Francorchamps 24 Hours . The drivers behind the wheel of the Ferrari 458 Italia were Matt Griffin and Duncan Cameron. The duo was also part of the victorious quartet at the 24-hour race in Spa-Francorchamps in 2013. AF Corse has not been represented in the highest class, the PRO category for purely professional racing drivers, to this day.

ILMC and WEC

At the 2010 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) for prototypes and Gran Turismo vehicles, AF Corse came second in the team classification. The following year , AF Corse won the LM-GTE-Pro category. In both years Ferrari also won the GT2 and GTE manufacturers' titles.

In the official FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2012, AF Corse also won the LMGTE Trophy title and played a significant role in winning the GTE manufacturer's title for Ferrari. The team from Italy has been unbeaten since this year.

Endurance racing

From 2006 to 2012 AF Corse took part in the 24-hour race of Spa-Francorchamps . The greatest successes were a double victory in the GT2 category in 2006, victory in the same category in 2009 and several class victories in the Blancpain Endurance Series up to 2015. The successful quartet this year consisted of works driver Gianmaria Bruni, the Italian Alessandro Pier Guidi , the Belgian Stéphane Lémeret and the Thai Pasin Lathouras.

In 2012 AF Corse won the GT Pro category of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Giancarlo Fisichella , Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander . This success was repeated in 2014. In 2015 the trio was on the way to defending their title, but had to be content with third place after technical problems. Teammates Davide Rigon , James Calado and Olivier Beretta took second place.
