The Maserati GranSport is a derivative of the Maserati Coupé with a 4.2 liter Ferrari V8 engine, which has been manufactured since the end of 2001 . It was presented as GranSport (Coupé) at the Geneva Motor Show in autumn 2004. later the open Spyder followed. The name Gran Sport takes up a designation of a classic Maserati model; Special coupés of the A6G / 54 series were sold as Gran Sport in 1956 and 1957 .

Gran Sport Coupe

The GranSport, based on the coupé, received subtle retouches on the body and small technical changes to the engine and gearshift. Maserati shortened the response time of its Cambiocorsa gearshift ("racing gearshift"). The new front and rear aprons together with the small spoiler lip on the trunk lid provide more downforce. In addition, the body of the GranSport has been lowered by ten millimeters and the chassis has been made tighter. All in all, it improves handling and reduces lift and drag (c w = 0.33). With the GranSport Coupé, Maserati competed against the Porsche 996 GT3 and Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale .

The production figures of the GranSport Coupe are:
2005: 813 units
2006: 1,156
2007: 183
A total of 2,152 GranSport Coupé were built.

Gran Sport Spyder

The GranSport Spyder is an open two-seater and is based on the Gransport Coupé. The two-seater's fabric top can be opened and closed fully automatically within around 23 seconds. However, the top opening only works when the car is at a standstill, including the handbrake on. It is set up as a competitor to the Mercedes SL 500 and Porsche 911 Cabrio. Only 472 Spyder were built, 83 of which were registered in Germany. There are the following differences compared to the Coupé:

  • Chassis tuning (electronic chassis with lowering, 10 mm)
  • Changed add-on parts of the body ( sills , aprons, enlarged and chrome-plated radiator grille)
  • Almost completely changed interior with new (sport) seats, changed instruments, and new controls in built-in parts made of carbon
  • Engine tuning (+7 kW) to 295 kW (400 PS) and 452 Nm
  • Top speed (+5 km / h) 290 km / h top
  • Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.85 s
  • shorter response time Cambiocorsa circuit.
  • Sounds significantly louder than the already very loud base model due to the flap exhaust that can be opened at the push of a button (in Germany, the limit of 72 decibels applies from July 2016)
  • it is only available with the semi-automatic "Cambiocorsa" transmission
