The Maserati Barchetta was a mid-engine roadster produced by the Italian car manufacturer Maserati from 1992 to 1993.
The Barchetta, first presented on December 14, 1991, the 77th anniversary of Maserati’s founding, was intended primarily for the international Barchetta one-make cup held in 1992 and 1993.
The backbone of the Barchetta was a central tubular frame made of aluminum and composite materials with an integrated fuel tank; this construction went back to the prototype Maserati Chubasco shown at the end of 1990 . The body, consisting of three separate shells, was also made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic . The chassis was based on contemporary Formula 1 technology: all wheels were individually suspended on double triangular wishbones, the internal suspension struts were operated via push rods (front "push rods" and rear "pull rods").
The Barchetta was powered by a 232 kW (315 hp) version of the two-liter V6 from the Maserati Biturbo , which delivered its power to the rear wheels via a Getrag six- speed gearbox.
A total of 17 examples of the Barchetta were made.
