The Maserati Coupé , also known as the Maserati 4200, is a sports car from the Italian automaker Maserati , which was produced from the end of 2001 to mid-2007 and replaced the Maserati 3200 GT .

In September 2001 it was presented to the public for the first time as a convertible version of the Maserati Spyder at the IAA in Frankfurt. The coupe made its debut a year later at the Detroit Auto Show 2002. In the same year, the sports version GranSport had its premiere.

history

Instead of the long-serving 3.2-liter V8 biturbo of the 3200 GT, a newly developed 4.2-liter V8 engine from Ferrari was installed in the Maserati Coupé . This light alloy V8 engine has two overhead camshafts and develops an output of 287 kW (390 hp), which is delivered to the rear axle via the transaxle .

The Spyder has a normal fabric roof that disappears electrically behind the seats under a cover in around 30 seconds. The Spyder is powered by the same 4.2-liter V8 engine from Ferrari's development department. Initially, the Spyder was only available with the Cambiocorsa gearshift , and a year later with a manual 6-speed gearbox. The coupé was also available with the sequential gearbox, where you can shift gears using paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.

Facelift

In autumn 2004, the Coupé and Spyder were revised. The changes included an enlarged grille, the design of which is based on the air intake of the Maserati Quattroporte . There are also slot-like air outlets behind the wheel arches at the rear. The central opening in the middle of the rear section is also barred from then on.

In addition to these external retouches, Maserati had expanded the standard equipment of both vehicles. Both variants received xenon light with automatic headlight range control. 18-inch light-alloy wheels in a 7-spoke design, which were previously only available as optional equipment, were also available at no extra charge.

The changes in the interior included a new instrument lighting in dark blue and white. The redesigned center tunnel has chrome surrounds and can holders as well as additional storage space. There was also the aluminum look interior package for the center console and the door panels at no extra charge.

Production of the Coupé and Spyder ended in mid-2007. The GranTurismo followed in autumn 2007 .
