The Maserati Mexico was a luxury- class Gran Turismo built by the Italian automobile manufacturer Maserati from 1966 to 1973 .
Model history
At the 1966 Paris Salon, Maserati presented the Mexico (internal Tipo 112), a four-seater luxury-class GT coupé with a notchback and eight-cylinder V engine .
The Mexico was based on a Bertone prototype from 1965, but the production version was given a body by Vignale based on a design by Michelotti . She sat on a tubular frame. The chassis resembled that of other Maseratis of the time: individually suspended wheels at the front, a rigid axle on leaf springs at the rear and disc brakes on all wheels.
The Mexico was initially powered exclusively by a 4.7-liter V8, which came with four Weber carburettors to 290 hp (213 kW). From 1969 the smaller 4.2-liter V8 from the first Maserati Quattroporte with 260 hp (191 kW) was available as an alternative . At the customer's request, one vehicle was equipped with the 4.9-liter engine from the Maserati Ghibli and another with the 3.7-liter six-cylinder in-line engine from the Maserati Mistral .
482 copies were produced by 1973.
