The Geramond Verlag GmbH is a German publishing house , based in Munich . The publishing house, founded in 1989, publishes books , magazines , DVDs , calendars , collector's editions and online portals and apps on the topics of automobiles , motorcycles , trains , model trains , model making , local transport , aviation and military history . GeraMond Verlag is part of the GeraNova Bruckmann publishing house . The managing directors are Clemens Schüssler, Henry Allgaier and Claus W. Küster.

history

1989-1996

GeraMond Verlag was launched on December 20, 1989 as a specialist publisher for publications on everything to do with rail vehicles by journalist Clemens Schüssler. The founder of the Freiburg EK-Verlag , Rudolf Josef Wesemann, was also involved. At that time, Clemens Schüssler was in charge of the service of the railway courier belonging to EK-Verlag . The businessman Marcus Niedt, who also worked as an author, became the managing director. The publishing house was initially located in Amalienstraße in Munich. After Wesemann's quick exit, the publishing house traded as GeraNova Zeitschriftenverlag GmbH from 1990 and GeraMond became the publishing brand for its specialist publications. With the articles of association dated October 25, 1990, Schüssler became the sole managing director of GeraNova. The company's headquarters were now on Fraunhoferstrasse in Munich. GeraMond Verlag GmbH was founded in 1990.

In 1990 the first edition of the newly founded Bahn Extra appeared under the name of GeraMond Verlag and has been published every two months since then. Between 1991 and 2004 Bahn Extra was published by GeraNova magazine publisher. In 1991 the first films from the "Bahn-Extra-Videothek" followed on VHS cassettes. From 1991 to 1992 the new bi-monthly GeraNova publication Bahn-Welt - Mehr FUN an Eisenbahn & Modell was launched. Then the world of railways came to the Berlin-based T & M publishing company and merged with the specialist magazine published by this company at the time, the model railroader . In the autumn of 1994, the Berliners lost the model railroader to Pietsch + Scholten Verlag in Stuttgart. In the same year, T & M Verlagsgesellschaft revived the world of railways with the subtitle magazine for traditional, museum and tourist railways , but discontinued it after only two issues. In 1991, GeraNova-Verlag published the first Bahn-Welt special edition, Bahn special . All in all, the Bahn special special editions appeared until 1997. With "Deutsche Bahnbetriebswerke" the first collector's edition came onto the market in 1992. In 1995 GeraMond took over the magazines Lok Magazin and Straßenbahn Magazin . The internet hobby portal www.geranova.de , which had long since been shut down , went online in 1996.

1997-2008

The first GeraMond books appeared in 1997. The program initially included railway, model railroad and tram titles. Since 1999, GeraNova Zeitschriftenverlag has belonged to the GeraNova-Bruckmann publishing house, which at that time united GeraNova Zeitschriftenverlag, GeraMond Verlag and Bruckmann Verlag under one roof. From June 2001, the GeraNova-Bruckmann publishing house and its publishers were located on Innsbrucker Ring in Munich. In autumn 2000 the offer was expanded to include aviation literature. The trade journal Flugzeug Classic was founded with Peter Pletschacher as editor-in-chief . In 2004 the collector's edition “Airlines” appeared. Since 2005, the program has been expanded to include automotive, motorcycle and commercial vehicle technology. The fire engine collector's edition was published at the end of 2005 . In March 2006, the new Auto Classic magazine came onto the market. At the same time, the first books on vintage cars, motorcycles, fire engines and tractors appeared. In April 2008 GeraMond Verlag launched the magazine Traktor Classic . and the new website was completed. Since May 2008 the headquarters of GeraMond Verlag and GeraNova Bruckmann publishing house have been in Infanteriestraße in Munich.

2009–2012

With the acquisition of the magazine ModellFan , which has been published by Schünemann Verlag since 1974 , taking over the previous editor-in-chief Helge Schling in the second half of 2009, the publisher opened up a further field of business from issue 11/2009, which was expanded by merging with the model making magazine Kit in 2010 has been. Since November 2010, GeraMond Verlag has also been publishing the then newly founded magazine for military history Clausewitz . The specialist publication appears every two months. In December of the same year, Schüssler appointed Carsten Leininger, who worked for the Ganske Publishing Group until 2009, as a further managing director of the company. In mid-2012, Clemens Hahn was appointed as a further managing director. Hahn had been with the company since 1993. The publishing house now has a dual leadership position. In the same year, a corporate cooperation was established with Gong Verlag , in which the magazine Ein Herz für Tiere , previously published by Gong, has been published.

2013-2020

As of July 2013, Marcel Ramirez, Head of Sales and Marketing from Knesebeck Verlag , took over the newly created position of Publishing Director at GeraNova Bruckmann and has since been responsible for the GeraMond Verlag's book programs, among other things. GeraMond Verlag has been responsible for the Schiff Classic magazine, which appears several times a year, since 2013 . The magazine, which has existed for decades (since 1972 under the title Schiff & Zeit ), is published by the German Society for Shipping and Marine History (DGSM). In addition, the publisher took over on 1 October 2013, the magazines model , ship model and electrical model , together with the associated book and plan program by Neckar-Verlag from Villingen-Schwenningen .

In August 2014, Managing Director Leininger left the publishing house. His post should not be filled again. Hahn remained the sole managing director.

On October 1, 2014, the publishing house took over the Alba publication Alf Teloeken GmbH & Co. KG with the magazines Eisenbahn Magazin and N-Bahn-Magazin . The magazine Modell-Magazin was not taken over. Likewise, it was assumed Military History into the program. In May 2015, the publisher launched TRAKTOR XL magazine , which was to appear four times a year. In February 2018, Henry Allgaier joined the management of the GeraNova Bruckmann publishing house and took over responsibility for the GeraMond magazine division from Clemens Hahn, who switched to the advisory board. On July 1, 2020, the former competitor in the field of railway and model railway magazines, Verlagsgruppe Bahn GmbH (VGB) based in Fürstenfeldbruck, was taken over by the Funke Mediengruppe .

Today GeraMond is one of the leading German-language publishers for specialist publications on traffic history and technology. The publisher is also active in the corporate publishing business. So far, customers have included a. Lufthansa, freenet AG and the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company EADS, the flight service of the Federal Police and Deutz-Fahr.
