A heart for animals is a monthly, German-language general - interest magazine with the subjects animals and nature and is aimed at animal owners and friends. In addition to news and reports on these topics and tips on keeping pets, a heart for animals contains news from the animal world, pet research, science and veterinary medicine. The magazine is published by Ein Herz für Tiere Media GmbH, a subsidiary of the GeraNova Bruckmann publishing house.

In the fourth quarter of 2015, the average circulation according to IVW was 53,396 copies. That is 3413 copies per issue more (+ 6.83%) than in the same quarter of the previous year.

History and Development
A heart for animals was developed by Helmut Markwort , then editor-in-chief of the magazines Gong and the current , and his news boss Jochen Birr. The magazine first went on sale on September 24, 1982.
A heart for animals has also been published in the Netherlands and Belgium under the title Hart voor Dieren since 1987 . In 1993 the magazines Partner Hund and Geliebte Katzen and later DOGStoday as a line extension were developed from Ein Herz für Tiere . The offshoot CATStoday was launched on July 13, 2013 . In August 2016, Ein Herz für Tiere Media GmbH also took over the magazine Mein Hund und ich from the Pabel-Moewig publishing house.
