The railway courier (EK) is a monthly in Freiburg magazine that both railways - and model railroad treated themes. The target group are amateur railroaders and model railroad fans as well as decision-makers and employees of railway companies and the railway industry. With a monthly circulation of around 40,000 copies, the EK is one of the highest-circulation and most extensive journals on the subject of railways in Germany. The magazine is published by the in-house EK-Verlag , which is again registered in the Freiburg commercial register after having been registered in Hamburg for several years from 1997.
history
The Eisenbahn-Kurier magazine was founded in Wuppertal in 1966 by a small group of railway fans around Rudolf Josef Wesemann, who also included the locomotive photographer Carl Bellingrodt . Wesemann then also took over the management. The stated goal was to develop a newsletter, in which all bets of the then active Railways - Steam locomotives were listed. At that time there were already some hobby journals on the subject of railways, but current reports on rail events were often missing or were only poorly carried out. The EK still puts one of its priorities on current railroad events. Bellingrodt later bequeathed large parts of his photo archive to the EK, which are still published regularly today.
From 1981 the subject of model railways was also included in the booklet. The three branches of the Eisenbahn-Kurier are available for special topics . These are Railway Courier Special , Railway Courier Topics and Railway Courier Aspect . Model railroaders also have their own titles available for special topics in the form of the Modellbahn-Kurier and Modellbahn-Kurier Special booklets . Another focus of EK-Verlag are books and videos on the subject of railways.
