Gorny ( Russian Горный ) is an urban-type settlement in the Toguchin district of Novosibirsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 9,403 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
The settlement is located about 60 km east of the oblast capital Novosibirsk , only a little south of the Inja river and in the northern foothills of the Salair ridge, which is almost 400 meters above sea level . Because of its location, the place got its name (from Russian gora for mountain ).
The settlement was founded in the 1950s when building materials were needed for the Novosibirsk Reservoir and other projects and a quarry was being built northeast of the place. The quarry is still the most important company and main employer of the place.
