Business incubator in Kolzowo

In April 1974, following a decree by the Soviet government, the creation of a research institute for molecular biology was initiated. The new institute was to be built near Novosibirsk and the academic institutions of the Akademgorodok there . For this purpose, a general plan for a new institute settlement was drawn up, which provided for the construction of an urban infrastructure for up to 25,000 inhabitants. From 1977 to 1979, when Kolzowo was officially recognized as an independent village, a first residential area for academics was built there. The name Kolzowo was given to the settlement in honor of the Soviet biologist Nikolai Kolzow (1872-1940).

From 1979 to 1991 Kolzowo's infrastructure was steadily expanded, and in 1990 the local area was expanded to include the Novoborsk settlement.

Kolzowo received the Naukograd status, which is awarded to selected scientifically shaped locations in Russia and entitles them to special subsidies for the maintenance and expansion of scientific institutions, on January 17, 2003 with a time limit until the end of 2025.
