Tschulym ( Russian Чулым ) is a city in the Novosibirsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 11,568 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the southeastern part of the West Siberian lowlands , about 130 km west of the Oblast capital Novosibirsk , on the river Tschulym , which flows into the outflowless Lake Tschanysee , which gave the place its name. The climate is continental.
The city of Chulym is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name .
history
Chulym was founded in 1762 as a settlement Chulymskoje ( Чулымское ) when the Siberian tract was set up . In 1937 the status of an urban-type settlement was given and in 1947 the place was given city rights under its current name.
