Kupino ( Russian Купино ) is a city in Novosibirsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 14,893 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located in the southeastern part of the West Siberian lowlands , about 580 km west-southwest of the oblast capital Novosibirsk south of Lake Chany near the Kazakh border. The climate is continental.

The town of Kupino is the administrative center of the Rajon of the same name . The nearest town is Karassuk 85 km southeast of Kupino.

history

Kupino was founded in 1886 as a village, which probably got its name from the family name (Kupin) of the local owner at the time. The town charter was granted in 1944.
