LeYa is a Portuguese publishing holding and bookselling chain. The name corresponds onomatopoeic to the Portuguese request to read (Port .: Leia, German: read).

The publishing group was founded in 2008 as an amalgamation of several publishers. The group continued to grow through acquisitions. LeYa now brings together 17 publishers from all branches in Portugal, including the important textbook publisher ASA, which has also been a major comic book publisher in Portugal since 2002, and the renowned literary and poetry publishers Caminho , Dom Quixote and Teorema.

In addition, LeYa is represented with its own publishers of the same name in Mozambique , Angola , and especially in Brazil .

LeYa and Porto Editora are the largest publishing houses in Portugal. Occasionally LeYa is named as the market leader, but Porto Editora usually shows the slightly higher numbers. The two companies together share around 47% of the Portuguese market.

The LeYa book award

The LeYa Book Prize Prémio LeYa de Romance (German: LeYa Roman Prize) has been awarded by the LeYa Group since 2008. With 100,000 euros, it is Portugal's highest book prize for an unpublished novel. The Prémio Camões is the most prestigious prize in the lusophone countries and is also endowed with 100,000 euros, but it honors the entire work of an artist and not just a single work.
