Davide Rigon (born August 26, 1986 in Thiene , Vicenza Province ) is an Italian racing driver . He won the Superleague Formula championship twice (2008, 2010) and the Euroseries 3000 championship title once (2007).

Career

After Rigon was active in karting between 1998 and 2002 , he started in the German Formula BMW in 2003 . As a result, Rigon started half a season in the Italian Formula 3 championship in 2004 and finished eleventh in the overall standings. He was also runner-up in the Italian Formula Gloria. He also took part in Italian Formula Renault races. In 2005 Rigon was active in several racing series: he won a race in the Italian Formula Renault and finally came sixth in the overall standings. With five wins in ten races, Rigon also secured the Formula Azzurra championship title. Rigon also took part in four Formula Renault 3.5 races and was 26th in the overall standings in the season. In 2006 Rigon was runner-up in the Italian Formula 3 championship with four wins. He also started for Minardi in two races of the Euroseries 3000 and finished 14th overall at the end of the season.

In 2007 Rigon competed again for Minardi in the Euroseries 3000 and won the championship title by a large margin over his teammate Diego Nunes . In 2008 the Italian was again active in several racing series, in the International Formula Masters , the Euroseries 3000, the Superstars Series and the FIA GT Championship . Rigon won a race in the GT2 class of the FIA ​​GT Championship and was eighth in this ranking. Rigon celebrated successes in 2008 in the Superleague Formula . As a pilot of the Chinese soccer club Beijing Guoan , Rigon won the championship title with three races.

In 2009 Rigon started in Qatar as the successor to Adrián Vallés for Trident Racing for the first time in the GP2 Asia series . With a podium finish, Rigon finished 17th overall at the end of the season. Rigon also contested the European GP2 series for Trident Racing. Due to financial problems, Rigon was replaced by Rodolfo González on a race weekend . After getting his first points in the GP2 series after his return, he finished 22nd overall at the end of the season. He also started seven races in the 2009 Superleague Formula season for the Olympiacos Piraeus team supported by GU Racing International . His best result was a second place in Magny-Cours . In 2010 Rigon returned to the Superleague Formula and was the only driver to drive the RSC Anderlecht racing car, which is supported by Azerti Motorsport . He won the first race twice and was “Weekend Winner” three times. He was on the podium 16 times in 31 starts and won the championship title for RSC Anderlecht at the end of the season. Rigon succeeded for the second time in helping a team to the championship title in the Superleague Formula.

Rigon, who already has experience in a Formula 1 car and completed test drives for Minardi in 2005, became a Formula 1 test driver at Scuderia Ferrari in 2011 . There he mainly carried out the test work in the simulator. Rigon was to complete races in 2011 in the GP2 series. After James Jakes left Scuderia Coloni before the start of the season, Rigon received his cockpit. At the second race of the first race weekend in Istanbul, Rigon collided with Julian Leal on the start-finish straight . In this accident, the safety cell was damaged by parts of the vehicle's suspension and Rigon was injured. He suffered several fractures in his left tibia and fibula . In a subsequent operation, 21 pins were used to stabilize him. He was out for the rest of the season. In the overall ranking he finished 29th overall. At the beginning of 2012, Rigon's test driver contract with Scuderia Ferrari was extended to the end of the 2013 season. He competed in 2012 in the Blancpain Endurance Series . Together with Stefano Gattuso and Daniel Zampieri , he achieved tenth place in the GT3 Pro classification. He also took part in one Formula Renault 3.5 and one SPEED EuroSeries event.
