Daniel Zampieri
Daniel Zampieri (born March 22, 1990 in Rome ) is an Italian racing driver . In 2009 he became the Italian Formula 3 champion . He drove in Formula Renault 3.5 from 2010 to 2012 .
Career
Like most racing drivers, Zampieri began his motorsport career in karting , in which he was active from 1998 to 2005. 2006 Zampieri switched to the single-seater racing and made his first experiences in the Italian Formula Renault and the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . In his debut season, he remained without points in both series. He also took part in the winter series of the Italian Formula Renault and finished ninth in the drivers' championship. He stayed in these series for the next two years. During that time he improved to 15th in the Italian Formula Renault 2007 and ninth in the drivers' championship in 2008. In the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup he finished 21st in 2007 and twelfth in the overall ranking in 2008. In the winter championship of the Italian Formula Renault, he was runner-up in 2007 and fifth in 2008.
In 2009 Zampieri switched to the Italian Formula 3 championship , in which he made his breakthrough in his first season. With four wins and another five podium finishes, Zampieri won the championship ahead of his compatriot Marco Zipoli . As a reward for winning the title, Zampieri took part in a Formula 1 test day for Scuderia Ferrari in December . In the GP2 Asia Series season 2009/2010 Zampieri started for the Rapax team . After the third race weekend he was replaced by Luiz Razia . At the end of the season he finished 22nd overall.
In 2010 Zampieri was sponsored by Ferrari as part of the Ferrari Driver Academy . In this year he went for Pons Racing in the Formula Renault 3.5 at the start. With two second places as the best results, he finished ninth overall. In 2011 Zampieri stayed in Formula Renault 3.5 and switched to BVM Target , which was new to the championship. While his team mate Sergio Canamasas finished eighth with a third place, Zampieri finished the season with fourth place as the best result in 16th place overall.
In 2012 Zampieri switched to GT racing. He finished eighth in the International GT Open and also won the series-internal GTS classification. In 2012 he was also active in the Blancpain Endurance Series with Stefano Gattuso and Davide Rigon . The three finished the season in tenth place in the GT3 Pro classification. In addition to his GT engagement, Zampieri took part in an event for BVM Target in the 2012 Formula Renault 3.5 season .
