Andrea de Adamich (born October 3, 1941 in Trieste ) is a former Italian racing driver .

Career

De Adamich drove for various teams in Formula 1 from 1968 to 1973 . He achieved his first sporting success in the Italian Formula 3 championship, which he won in 1965. His Formula 1 career was ended in 1973 by an accident at the British Grand Prix when he suffered broken bones in both legs in a mass collision triggered by Jody Scheckter's spin .

At the same time as his time in Formula 1, he drove very successfully in the brand world championship for sports prototypes, sports cars and GT cars, which took place from 1968 to 1975. He drove the last two years of the racing series, in which Steve McQueen followed his passion for racing. In 1971 he won two races in his Alfa Romeo 33 and was second overall with 111 points, just beaten by Pedro Rodríguez .

Today de Adamich conducts sports programs on television.
