Coppa Cittá di Enna 1966
The Coppa Cittá di Enna 1966 , also VI. Coppa Cittá di Enna, Pergusa , took place on August 7th at the Autodromo di Pergusa in Enna , Sicily , and was the 9th round of this year's sports car world championship .
The race
For the fifth time since 1962 , the racing event in Enna was part of the sports car world championship. 1962 won Marsilio Pasotti and Giancarlo Scotti on a Fiat-Abarth 1000 . The following year , Romano Perdomi , who also drove a Fiat-Abarth 1000, won. The 1964 race ended with a success for Hans Herrmann in an Abarth-Simca 2000 GT . In 1965 there was the first Ferrari victory thanks to Mario Casoni , who drove a 250LM .
Also in 1966 a Ferrari driver was the favorite for the overall victory. Local hero Nino Vaccarella contested the race on a plant - Ferrari Dino 206S . In the race he dropped out after a car fire, so Marsilio Pasotti, who also drove a Dino 206S, celebrated his second Coppa success. At the finish he was 14 seconds ahead of the Swiss Charles Vögele , who achieved his best place in a world championship run in a Porsche 906 .
The race was overshadowed by the fatal accident of the Sicilian racing driver Franco Lo Dico . Lo Dico drove an Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ and went off the track on lap seven in an overtaking maneuver. With serious injuries he was taken to a hospital in Enna, where he died shortly after arriving.
