1973 Watkins Glen 6 hour race
The 1973 Watkins Glen 6 Hours , also 6-Hours and The Can-Am, The Glen (Six Hours of Endurance For The World Championship of Makes), Watkins Glen , took place in Watkins Glen on July 21 and was the tenth and final round of the sports car world championship of this year.
The race
The 1973 Watkins Glen 6 Hours of more than twenty years of sports car racing came to an end. For the last time in the history of this racing series, a Scuderia Ferrari works car was at the start. Since the beginning of the World Championship in 1953 , Ferrari had been the title holder 13 times. In 1973 Ferrari had to admit defeat in the championship in the final championship run at Watkins Glen Matra , as Jacky Ickx and Brian Redman's second place in the Ferrari 312PB was a discard. With the victory of Gérard Larrousse and Henri Pescarolo in the Matra-Simca MS670B , the French Matra group won the world championship for the first time.
