Milt Minter
Milton Nelson "Milt" Minter (born November 24, 1933 in Sanger , † December 23, 2004 ) was an American automobile racing driver and racing team owner.
Career
After leaving school, Minter served as a communications engineer in the United States Army in the early 1950s . His racing career began in 1957 and lasted for four decades. He achieved his first successes in 1964 in the SCCA sports car championship, where he was able to achieve first overall victories. From the mid-1960s, he started regularly in the Trans-Am series . In 1973 the Porsche management presented him with the Pedro Rodríguez Award for the most committed driver in North America. That year he finished runner - up overall in the Can-Am series , runner-up in the Sebring 12-hour race and, together with François Migault, won the GT class at the Daytona 24-hour race .
Milter, who at times also had his own racing team, was successfully active in the IMSA GT and IMSA GTP series in the 1970s and 1980s ; he contested most of his races in Porsche racing cars. He died in December 2004 of complications from cancer.
