1974 Kyalami 6 Hours
The 1974 Kyalami 6 Hours , also known as the Daily Rand Mail 17th Nine Hour Endurance Race - Curtailed to 6 hours for 1974, Kyalami , took place on November 9th at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit . The race was the tenth and final round of the sports car world championship this year.
The race
After the withdrawal of Simca-Chyrsler as sponsor, the racing activities of Matra Sports in sports car sports ended at the 6-hour race of Kyalami in 1974. The originally nine-hour race distance was shortened to six hours and two factory Matra-Simca MS670C were under others also have two Gulf Mirage GR7s at the start. Even a heavy rain that fell over the track halfway through the race could not prevent the Matra double victory. The Matra team management helped determine the finish line. At nightfall, Gérard Larrousse and Henri Pescarolo won by one car length over their team-mates Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Jean-Pierre Jarier . The Gulf duo Derek Bell and David Hobbs finished the race in third place, six laps behind .
