Squarcino Borri

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Squarcino Borri (also: Scarsino Borri ) (* 1230 in Santo Stefano Ticino , † 1277 in Invorio ) one was Italian condottiere ( mercenary - leader ) and the feudal lord of the town of Santo Stefano Ticino.

Life

Squarcino Borri was the only known child of Lanfranco Borri (* around 1210 in Milan ) and his wife Katharina (* around 1212 in Kleve as Katharina von Kleve).

His father Lanfranco Borri was the feudal lord of the city of Santo Stefano Ticino. He counted St. Monas, who was Bishop of Milan from the end of the 3rd century to the beginning of the 4th century , among his ancestors. However, there is no evidence of this parentage.

Squarcino Borri (unlike his father) began a mercenary military career in his youth. After the rise of the Torriani family , he placed himself alongside the Visconti family and at the head of the noble exiles from Milan. He proved to be a particularly loyal supporter of the Visconti family. He distinguished himself in the service of the Archbishop of Milan Ottone Visconti as captain in the Battle of Desio (January 21, 1277).

In 1254 Squarcino married Borri Antonia (* 1236 in Milan), with whom he had the daughter Bonacossa (* 1254 in Milan, † January 13, 1321 ibid) and the son Landolfo (presumably died young).

His daughter Bonacossa Borri married Matteo I. Visconti in 1269 . On August 8, 1295, he became the political leader of Milan.

In 1269 Squarcino Borri (thanks to the support of the Visconti family) restored his vacant feudal rights to his land. In 1275 he also became the (non-hereditary) feudal lord of the land of Castellazzo de 'Stampi in Corbetta . He held this office until the end of his life, which was in the year 1277 after January 21st.
