Hennie van der Linde is a former South African racing car driver .

family

Hennie van der Linde is the father of Etienne and Shaun van der Linde , both of whom were also racing drivers. His two grandsons Kelvin and Sheldon van der Linde are also professional racing drivers.

Racing career

Hennie van der Linde was the most successful driver in the South African touring car championship in the 1970s and 1980s . Between 1972 and 1986 he won the overall championship five times. In the 1980s he completely dominated the racing series. With different racing car models of the Nissan Skyline he won 57 races in a row.

His international appearances were limited to endurance races on the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit . After 1975 , together with George Santana in Datsun 1200 GX fourth place at the 1000 km race at Kyalami reached (winner Peter Hennige , Jochen Mass and Hans Heyer in the Ford Escort II RS from Ford Cologne ), he succeeded in 1978 , again with Santana as a partner in the Datsun 140Z, with second place overall, the best placement in this race. In 1984 the event was part of the sports car world championship . In addition to van der Linde and Santana, Errol Shearsby was the third driver in Autoquip's Nissan Skyline .
