Sports car world championship 1975

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sports car world championship in 1975 was the 23rd season of this championship. It started on February 1st and ended on July 13th.

championship

In 1975 it was clear that the World Sports Car Championship had lost its attraction. With the exception of Renault and Alpine , there were no more works teams in the European races. The Willi Kauhsen Racing Team wrapped the Alfa Romeo races and the Gulf Research Racing only started at the 24 Hours of Le Mans . The traditional 24-hour race , which was held for the first time in 1923 , was no longer part of the racing series. After the 12-hour race at Sebring and the Targa Florio , the championship had thus lost the third prominent endurance race . Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell won the Le Mans race in the Gulf GR8 .

The superior cars in the world championship, which ended in July after the 6-hour race at Watkins Glen , were the Alfa Romeo T33 / TT / 12 , which won seven of the nine races. For Alfa Romeo this meant victory in the Manufacturers' World Championship.
