The 1977 sports car world championship was the 25th season of this championship. It started on February 5th and ended on October 23rd.

championship

Compared to the previous year , when 14 races were part of the championship, the number of races increased by three to 17 in 1977. Once again, there was a separation between the cars in Group 5, which started in the branded world championship, and the group’s sports car championship 6. While the brand world championship was able to show good attendance figures in the respective races due to adequate starting fields, the sports car races suffered from too few participants and a lack of spectator interest from the first race.

The only sporadic works outings by BMW with the 320i made it easy for Porsche to win the manufacturers' title in the brand world championship again. All races ended with overall Porsche victories. The superiority of a manufacturer in the sports car world championship was just as clear. Alfa Romeo won all of the races with the Alfa Romeo T33 / SC / 12 through the Autodelta works team .
