Sports car world championship 1969
The 1969 World Sports Car Championship was the 17th season of this championship. It began on February 2 and ended on August 10, 1969.

The World Sportscar Championship in 1969 was dominated by the works team of Porsche . The racing department of the German sports car manufacturer ran this competition with great effort. Under the direction of Ferdinand Piëch , Helmuth Bott and Rico Steinemann , Porsche works cars won nine of the ten races. The victories of Porsche of Austria and Freiherr von Wendt at the races in Watkins Glen and in Austria were also achieved with Porsche works cars. Porsche had a large squad of drivers, including the German drivers Gerhard Mitter , Udo Schütz , Hans Herrmann , Kurt Ahrens , Karl von Wendt, Willi Kauhsen and Rolf Stommelen, the three Britons Brian Redman , Vic Elford and Richard Attwood , the Austrians Rudi Lins and the French Gérard Larrousse counted. The top driver in the team was the Swiss Jo Siffert , who won six world championship races. The various models of the Porsche 908 and, from the 1000 km race at Spa-Francorchamps, the Porsche 917, were the emergency vehicles .
However, Porsche could not win the season highlight. When 24-hour race at Le Mans , Hans Herrmann and Gérard Larrousse in a dramatic finish to the Ford GT40 of Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver to admit defeat. Sieglos remained the Scuderia Ferrari , the new prototype, the Ferrari 312P , fast, but was susceptible to defects.
