Richard James David Attwood (born April 4, 1940 in Wolverhampton , Staffordshire ) is a former English racing driver .
Career
Attwood made his Formula 1 debut at the Monaco Grand Prix in the 1965 season for the Reg Parnell Racing team on a Lotus -25- BRM. He competed eight times for Reg Parnell and achieved sixth place each at the Italian and Grand Prix Mexican Grand Prix his best season placements.
In 1966 Attwood drove for the Midland Racing Partnership racing team in a Lola T61 in Formula 2 . In 1967 he started once for Cooper in Formula 1. Attwood achieved his best Formula 1 placement in the first of a total of six races for BRM in the 1968 season with a second place at the Monaco Grand Prix. In the same race he also drove his only fastest race lap.
After one race for Lotus and one for Williams in the 1969 season, Attwood ended his Formula 1 career with a total of 11 championship points.
Richard Attwood won in 1970 together with Hans Herrmann the 24 Hours of Le Mans on a Porsche 917 . It was the first overall victory for Porsche at Le Mans - a historic triumph.
