The third 500 km race on the Nürburgring , also III. International ADAC 500km race, Nürburgring , took place on September 2, 1962 on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring and was the twelfth round of the sports car world championship of that year.

The race

In addition to the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring , there was another world championship run on the Nordschleife in 1962 . The 500 km race was only part of the GT and touring car classification . Fastest driver in training was Hans Herrmann , who on a plant - 1000 Bialbero Fiat Abarth the race track in a time of 10: 25.600 minutes rounded. During the race the car broke down after an axle break. Still, there was a victory for Abarth. Team mate Eberhard Mahle won by more than nine minutes over Tommy Spychiger , who also drove a factory Abarth.
