Teodoro Zeccoli
Teodoro Zeccoli (born October 15, 1929 in Lugo di Romagna , † March 6, 2018 in Imola ) was an Italian racing driver .
Career
Teodoro Zeccoli began his career in the late 1950s as a hill climb driver and became a test and works driver for Abarth in 1961 . For Abarth he drove mountain and sports car races. He also made his debut for the Italian racing team in 1961 at the Le Mans 24-hour race . With his partner Jean Vinatier , however, he dropped out prematurely after an engine failure.
Zeccoli was an excellent test driver and was hired by Alfa Romeo in this capacity in 1967 to carry out the test work with the new Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 and the Stradale version. It was also Zeccoli who celebrated his first race win with the Tipo 33 at the hill climb in Fleron, Belgium in 1967.
Zeccoli competed in numerous sports car races and in 1969 in the North American Racing Team's Ferrari 250LM achieved his best position in Le Mans with eighth overall.
The name Zeccoli is also associated with a tragic accident. In 1964 he drove an ATS 2500 GT together with the Portuguese Mário de Araújo Cabral at the 12-hour race in Reims . The race took place on public roads, which were reopened after the training times and between training and the race. Zeccoli had an accident on the Garenne Straight during practice at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 3rd. The car was parked on the edge of the track. At 11 p.m. a minibus collided with the ATS. The driver of the car was killed and seven passengers were injured.
