Pergusa 4-hour race in 1976
The 4-hour race of Pergusa 1976 , also Coppa Florio, Enna 4 Hours, Pergusa , took place on June 27 at the Autodromo di Pergusa and was the ninth round of the sports car world championship of that year.
The race
The sports car race in Pergusa had the strongest line-up of the year to date. In addition to the plant - Porsche 936 by Jochen Mass and Rolf Stommelen two factory were Alpine-Renault A442 and one of Autodelta prepared Alfa Romeo T33 / SC / 12 reported. The two Alpines drove Jean-Pierre Jarier , Henri Pescarolo , Patrick Depailler and Jacques Laffite . Arturo Merzario and Mario Casoni drove the Alfa Romeo .
Both in practice and in the race, the two Alpines were the fastest cars, but as in the previous races suffered from a lack of reliability. Depailler and Laffite's car - the fastest in training - had an engine failure and Jarier and Pescarolo's vehicle broke down with a gearbox failure. The Alfa Romeo did not finish either, retired after 48 laps due to a suspension damage. After 3 hours of driving, Mass and Stommelen won with a lead of 10 laps on the 2-liter Osella PA4 run by Roby Filannino and Ermanno Pettiti . The race, which was originally supposed to last four hours, was stopped after three hours due to a violent thunderstorm and never restarted.
