Maria Grazia "Lella" Lombardi (born March 26, 1941 in Frugarolo , † March 3, 1992 in Milan ) was an Italian racing driver .

Career

She made her Formula 1 debut in 1974 with the Allied Polymer Group team at the British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch , but without being able to qualify for the race. In 1975 she started for the first time in a Formula 1 race, the South African Grand Prix , for the March team . At the last race of the season, the US Grand Prix in Watkins Glen , she competed for Frank Williams Racing Cars , but could not start the race due to ignition problems in the warm-up . In 1976 she drove a race for March, which she finished from 22nd place in 14th place. She then switched to Team RAM and drove three races. She drove her last of twelve races in 1976 in Zeltweg at the Austrian Grand Prix and after finishing 24th in the qualification, she finished 12th.

Lella Lombardi is so far the only woman in a Formula 1 - Grand Prix drove into the points. In 1975 she received half a World Championship point for sixth place at the prematurely canceled Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Montjuïc in Barcelona.

She is also the first woman to take part in a race in the German Touring Car Championship . With seventh and tenth place respectively at the tenth race weekend at the Hockenheimring 1984 , she finished in points, but was not entitled to points as a guest starter.

She was also active in sports car racing. In 1981 she won together with Giorgio Francia on a Osella PA9 the 6-hour race at Mugello .

Lella Lombardi died of cancer on March 3, 1992 in Milan.
